Dragonfly’s 6 Christmas gift tips for charities

Christmas is an important time for charities.
It’s a time of giving for all and nearly a third of all charitable giving is at Christmas (31%).
For charities, it’s no different. You want to give something back to the people who have supported your cause, encourage new donations or demonstrate your work.
Used well, they can be an effective tool for fundraising, awareness-raising and supporter engagement. Yet when it comes to giving the right gift at Christmas as a charity, it can be tough to get it right.
Give too little and they feel undervalued. Give too much and they’ll think you’re wasting their money on silly gifts rather than putting it to good use.
We’ve put together countless campaigns for charities and non-profit organisations over the years and have learnt a lot about how to navigate these delicate waters.
So – in true Christmas spirit – we’re giving you 6 of our top tips for donor gifts this Christmas:

1. Make it seasonal
Sounds obvious but it’s important to make your gift relevant and timely, especially at Christmas. It shows you’ve put some thought into the gift, increasing the chances of it being opened and used.
Whether they’re frequent supporters or new donors, it’s a Christmas gift – so make it feel like it.
2. Make it (actually) useful

3. Stick to one thing
People have received notepads, pens and coasters by the dozen, so the last thing they need is more of the same. Although they’re useful, they’re not very original, putting you at risk of ending up in the bin with the other pens they received this year.
