We had a wonderful catch up with the lady behind the wheel at Dragonfly - Debbie Churcher. Grab a cuppa and have a quick read to discover more about Debbies love for (square) direct mail, being a shop owner and cloak of invisibility!

Name: Debbie Churcher

Job title: Head of Marketing and Strategy

First job in the industry: The Pandemic Flu team at the Scottish Government (this was years before most people even knew what a pandemic was!!)

What is your area of expertise:
My background is direct marketing and integrated marketing campaigns but more recently I have focussed on customer experience and how marketing plays a crucial role in ensuring customers are looked after at each and every touchpoint.

What do you love most about your job?

Understanding audiences. I love the way that direct marketing allows us to speak to people on a one to one level. I also love that the smallest piece of insight could unlock an action, purchase or change in behaviour.  I also love meeting new people and working out how to adapt my way of working to get the best from them.

In a digital first world, what excites you about print?

The excitement it brings to see something personal on the door step. Having touch as a sensory tool also elevates the channel and brings so many possibilities.

What’s caught your eye on your doormat?

Square envelopes. Definitely have to open that!

Where is your mail spot in your home?

I have a table near the front door where the mail sits and collects probably over the course of a week, and then I work through it all in one go.

We are all in office 3 days a week at Dragonfly HQ in Edinburgh’s lively West-end, tell us something about your weekly journey to the office?

After dropping the kids at school, I have a brisk 20 minute walk to the office, but the walk takes me through the National Galleries grounds which is always a really nice to walk through.

Your best work from home tip?

Set a timer for regular breaks. It’s too easy to get caught up and loose track on time.

If you could have any superpower, what would you choose?

Invisibility (aka a bit nosy!)

If you didn’t do this your job would be….

I’d love to own a local shop.
